All payment or charge requests are initiated by the merchant. This charge is then made to your YouTrip card to facilitate the transaction.
Merchant currency choice
The merchant may choose to charge you in SGD instead of the local currency, a practice known as Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC).
What is Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC)?
Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a service that allows merchants to charge your card’s default currency (SGD) instead of the local currency where the transaction is taking place.
Why might a merchant choose to use DCC?
Merchants may opt to use DCC for convenience, especially if SGD is the default currency associated with their card. This can simplify the transaction for both the merchant and the cardholder.
Why are the exchange rates different from the App?
When DCC is used, the exchange rates are determined by the bank’s rate, not YouTrip’s wholesale exchange rates. This can result in less favourable rates and additional fees.
How can I avoid unexpected charges in SGD?
To avoid being charged in SGD or any other currency that you did not expect, always check the currency in which the charge will be processed before confirming your payment. This allows you to make an informed decision on whether to proceed with the transaction or not.
